What Type of Mattress Should I Buy in the Darling Downs?

From mattress size to firmness, there’s plenty to consider when shopping around for the perfect mattress for you. It’s worth taking your time to research and consider the options. After all, we spend a third of our lives asleep in bed. At Rowes Furniture, we offer a range of quality mattresses suited to different preferences and needs. Below, we look at some of the key considerations.

Firmness

Comfort is subjective, however, choosing the right mattress firmness can often come down to your preferred sleeping position. A firm mattress is often best if you sleep on your stomach as it helps keep your spine aligned. A medium mattress is ideal if you sleep on your back, providing support for your back and neck. Meanwhile a soft mattress supports side sleepers, contouring to the curves of your body.

Mattress Type

Today, you can find a variety of mattress types ranging from traditional coil mattresses to memory foam and latex foam mattresses. Coil mattresses provide a firm, springy, supportive sleep and are cheaper and lighter. The downside is they wear out faster and any tossing and turning is more likely to disturb a partner.

Memory foam moulds to the shape of your body and absorbs weight but can get too hot and can feel too dense for some sleepers. Latex foam similarly moulds to body shape but offers a more solid feel while being more breathable and durable. You can also find hybrid options that combine elements like springs and latex foam.

Mattress Size

Take into account room size and how many people share the bed when choosing mattress size. The queen bed mattress is the most common and comfortably fits two people. Those looking for extra luxury, or find they need to share their bed with a pet as well as a partner, may want to opt for a king. Don’t forget to get a bed frame or base in the same size as the mattress as well.

  • Single bed mattress: 92 cm x 188 cm
  • Long Single: 92 cm x 203 cm
  • King Single: 107 cm x 203 cm
  • Double bed mattress: 38 cm x 188 cm
  • Queen bed mattress: 153 cm x 203 cm
  • King bed mattress: 183 cm x 203 cm
  • Super King bed mattress: 203 cm x 203 cm

Another option is an adjustable mattress set up. This involves a second mattress being built into the base of the bed so you can quickly create one larger bed or have two separate beds for a guest.
